Back in Ann Arbor, thoughts so far…

Hello friends (both in Ann Arbor, Copenhagen, and elsewhere),

For all of those reading that don’t know me, I’m part of the Michigan contingent that stayed back in Ann Arbor and will interject my thoughts and reflections from here.

I have to say – I’m jealous. The energy surrounding this event is apparrent. It’s apparent in your posts and it’s apparent in every mass media source I check. General coverage is pretty solid. Today I’ve read stories revealing skeptics meeting in Copenhagen, police intercepting protest equipment, and an Op-Ed piece by Tom Freidman calling for Cheney-like behavior on climate, which means acting in the face of uncertainty.

I have some questions for those of you in Copenhagen:

1. Genearlly speaking who is there. Students? Academics? Business folk? Energy? Health? I imagine people from every nook and cranny. Is one group in particular more represented than another? Is one making more noise than another?

2. Any sign of skeptics in or around the Bella Center? What about activists either for or against climate action?

3. There is a lot of talk about rich nations vs. poor nations, developed vs. developing. Any sense yet how these issues may be resolved? What new buzzwords are they throwing around?

4. Finally and most importantly – – does there seem to be any doubt or question, even given the recent climategate situation, that climate change is REAL, caused by humans, and is already causing irreversible damage to human and ecosystem stability? I really want to know if this is still an issue or if the world as finally agreed.

Be safe. Have fun. You’re missing the first snow fall here in Ann Arbor.
